Cinnamon assist in relieving pains associated with toothache. Simply make a paste using 5 teaspoons of honey mixed with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

Apply small portion of the paste directly onto the affected part (the aching tooth) 2-3 times daily until the pain is relieved. You can store the extra paste in a clean small container at constant room temperature.

What are the Side Effects of Cinnamon

Studies carried out in Europe have shown that; cinnamon derived from the Cassia plant contains some toxic chemicals known as Coumarin.

 Coumarin is known to cause kidney and liver damage in high concentrations. The cinnamon powder that we purchase from our markets are typically derived from the Cassia plant, it's therefore important to avoid consuming high doses of it.

Cinnamon shouldn't be used in large quantities during pregnancy due to the possibility of adverse effects on the developing uterus.

Anyone taking diabetic medications or blood thinners should consult the doctor before taking cinnamon as a regular supplement.

Where and How to Buy Cinnamon

The powdered one we commonly use as a culinary spice is typically the Cassia cinnamon, and this can be found in most grocery stores.

The Ceylon type is typically more expensive than the Cassia cinnamon, therefore it is usually available in specialty stores. It's usually only available in stick form.

 Though both types are known for their therapeutic importance, the Ceylon type is slightly sweeter and is therefore considered to be of higher quality.

Many health and nutrition food stores also sell Cinnamon in the form of capsule.
